Autumn in Oregon: crunchy leaves, a changing sky, and at the University of Oregon, a reinvigorated student population. As the environment around us prepares for winter, at the Lundquist College of Business, there is a sense of renewal. We feel in the air a renewed passion, renewed purpose, and renewed energy—thanks in no small part to some new faces around the building.
With limited resources we work hard to invest in what is important. We need buildings, programs, and materials. But perhaps most importantly, we need top-notch faculty. That is why we are pleased to announce the addition of six new tenure-track faculty hires. These individuals bring to the Lundquist College a wealth of expertise, as well as solid research, that will aid in our quest to grow our faculty ranks and promote excellence in teaching and research.
Stepping Up to the Challenge
Focusing on quality in everything we do lies at the core of our strategic plan. It's gratifying to know it is a priority for our donors as well. We are pleased to report that an anonymous donor has challenged us to match his $1 million gift for accounting research.
We have a limited time to meet this match, so if you're so inclined, we invite you to give to the Helen Gernon Accounting Faculty Endowment Fund. This newly established fund honors Emeritus Professor Helen Gernon and aims to help us better compete with peer universities for outstanding faculty members. This funding allows us to move from good to great, recognize accomplished scholars, and grow our reputation for excellence in accounting research.
Great universities, public and private, achieve their greatness largely through the accomplishments of gifted faculty members. It is not uncommon for influential alumni to trace the impact of higher education on their lives and careers to a single professor who “made the difference." Perhaps you have a faculty member in mind, one that changed the course of your studies—or even your life. Consider honoring him or her with a gift—one with the potential to be life changing to today's students.
At the Lundquist College, we celebrate a new home for several of our programs in the works in Portland, a fantastic building in Eugene, exceptional study abroad opportunities, and an experiential learning model that we believe delivers the best possible student experience. As we continue to initiate new academic and professional programs and work to attract the best business teachers in the world, we strive to serve the business community with graduates well equipped to meet today's—and tomorrow's—most pressing global needs. We may even change a few lives along they way.
